Counter ribbing: 0.1 mm wire, copper or gold
Wing: White yarn
Hackle: WHITING rooster saddle feather, grizzly
This fly is a realistic imitation of an adult mayfly. Mayfly patterns are among the most effective flies — during a mass mayfly hatch, almost all fish switch exclusively to feeding on mayflies and ignore other baits.
There have even been multiple cases of pike striking mayfly imitations during these periods. However, landing a pike on such fine tippets is extremely difficult, as their sharp teeth easily cut through the delicate leaders used for this style of fishing.
