Tail: Fibres from rooster cape feathers
Body: Natural or synthetic dubbing, colour – pearl
Body Ribbing: Flat tinsel, colour – gold or pearl
Body Ribbing: Wire 0.1 mm, colour – copper or gold
Wing: Mallard feather, colour – grey
Hackle: WHITING rooster saddle feather, colour – beige or grizzly
This fly is an imitation of an adult mayfly. Mayfly imitations are extremely effective. During the peak of a mayfly hatch, almost all fish switch to feeding on mayflies and ignore other lures. There have even been cases of pike striking at mayfly imitations during this period – although landing a pike on such a fly is challenging, as the ultra-thin leaders used for this type of fishing are quickly cut by pike teeth.
